FOR A BURNING CAUSE
With the rapid urbanization of Coimbatore city, the need for every kind of facility has grown manifold in the recent past. More than 10,00,000 people have migrated from the rural areas to the city in the recent years and this has naturally fuel led the need for more concrete steps in infrastructure development.
Although the city is equipped with 2 electric crematoriums, apart from several traditional burning ghats, the need for increased capacity is being felt across the region. A positive development in this front has come from the initiative of the Shri K Gopal Memorial Trust, which has embarked on donating a completely gasified crematorium to the Saravanampatti Town Panchayat.
The trust is managed by a group of eminent personalities, including Smt G Sarojini, Mr. C Velumani, Mr C R Swaminathan, Mr CN Srivatsan, Mr S Dorairaj, Mr G Soundararajan, Mr R Vijaykumar, Mr G Rajendran and Mr G Selvaraj.
The project outlay for the gasified crematorium is expected to touch about Rs 1.75 crores and the civil construction is being undertaken by Ms Samraj Constructions, Coimbatore. The furnace for the purpose is entrusted with Ms Jwalaa Equipments and Consultants, Madurai.
One of the advantages the gasified crematorium will offer the people, is a 24 hour availability. The facility is located in Saravanampatty and will provide significant benefits for the people in and around Sathy Road and Annur locations. The facility is expected to begin functioning by end 2009.
